An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan ordered on Friday that a 30-year-old man, Lateef Habeeb, should be remanded in a correction facility for alleged attempted murder.
Habeeb, whose address was not provided, is charged with attempted murder, obtaining money under false pretense, and theft.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Oluwabusayo Osho, did not take the plea of Habeeb for lack of jurisdiction.
She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
She adjourned the case until June 6 for mention.
The prosecutor, Insp. Olalekan Adegbite, had earlier told the court that Habeeb committed the offence on March 17 at 11.40 a.m. in the Olode area of Ibadan.
Adegbite alleged that Habeeb and others at large attempted to murder a businessman, Muideen Aremu, after collecting N535,000 from him.
Adegbite alleged that Habeeb collected the money from Aremu under the false pretense of selling him two acres of land at Olode village.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 516, 419, and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN)
