Speaker of the Anambra House of Assembly, Dr. Somtochukwu Udeze, has urged Muslims to always promote values of universal justice, peace, mutual understanding, and love in their religious obligations.
The Speaker’s message commemorating the Muslims Eid el Fitr celebration was signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Emma Madu, on Tuesday in Awka.
Udeze also urged Muslims to exhibit the virtues of holiness, dedication to worship, and charity, which were the essence of Ramadan, to further unite the people and uplift the nation at all times.
He sued for tolerance among the different religious bodies in the country.
“On behalf of the Anambra state legislature, I extend my warmest wishes to Muslims on the occasion of Eid el Fitr.
“And I urge Muslims to strive to maintain peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationships with their Christian brothers in the interest of peace and the progress of the country.
“Muslims in Anambra State are lucky to operate under Gov. Chukwuma Soludo, as he has continually provided the enabling environment for them to propagate their faith and also earn a good living.
“I, however, enjoined them to reciprocate the governor’s gesture by giving this administration the necessary support,” he said.
The Speaker said that with fervent prayers from the Muslim and other religious groups, as well as sincerity and uprightness by political leaders, the current economic and security challenges confronting the country would be surmounted.
Udeze urged Muslims to continue to operate within the laws of the state and enjoy the hospitality of Anambra.
He promised that the legislature would continue to enact laws and resolutions to promote peaceful coexistence, development, and the well-being of the citizens in the state.(NAN)
