Some Stakeholders in the Ikorodu Area of Lagos State, have urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the President Bola Tinubu administration, as one year is not enough for an assessment.
They disclosed this in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Lagos on Sunday.
Asipa Olusanya, Deputy APC Chairman in Ikorodu division, said Tinubu’s robust and encompassing manifesto of Renewed Hope Agenda would be achieved.
According to him, the agenda shows a lot of promise, specifically, the thrust is to build Nigeria, especially for the youth, where graduates will be employed with decent wages.
Olusanya said, “For the manufacturing sector to create and invent more goods and services required for within and outside the country.”
He said the agenda was also premised on the manufacturing sector to produce what is needed
“The policy thrust is for Made- in-Nigeria goods so that resources would be circulated between supply, demand and manufacturing in addition to being an export oriented nation rather than importation.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda also promises to continue to assist our ever toiling farmers through enlightened agricultural policies and promote productivity, assuring of lowering costs of living.
“The agenda is also premised on promoting digital economy, e-commerce to empower and train youths in digital technology as an engine for growth to drive employment generation to be at par globally.
“Today, we see China, we see all the big countries now engaging in artificial intelligence that can even predict what’s happening, all these are embraced in the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“In all this, one may not be able to arrive at a very objective and analytical assessment to be able to predict the performance delivery to meet the spectrum of the people you want in one year.
“The first thing is to look at the foundation of government, to look at the structure of governance, to look at reform gaps, so in terms of assessment, I will say it may be too early to assess the government in just one year,” he said.
Similarly, Chief Kayode Olomo, the Baale of Ojogbe in Ikorodu area also enjoined the public to be patient.
According to him, the removal of fuel subsidies may have resulted in serious inflation and a harsh economy, saying it will balance soon.
Olomo, however, urged Tinubu to initiate a drastic measure to curtail the cabals who had destroyed the nation’s economy through embezzlement and milking resources of the country.
He said, “I am of the opinion that this present administration is tolling the right path and I appeal to people to be patient because a year is not enough to assess its performance.
“The only mistake of the administration was announcing removal of fuel subsidy without properly planning how to cushion the effects on the citizenry.
”The president should have appointed committees to monitor and sanction filling stations that used it to exploit people to make excess gains.
“Another thing is that this government should be more drastic in arresting the cabals, investigate and seize their ill gotten wealth and transform it to palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy removal,” Olomo said.
Also, Mrs Bukola Osho, Ihe iyaloja of Ikorodu central said the administration was doing its best to revamp the economy while some people were trying to exploit it for personal gains.
She urged the Federal Government to set up a price regulatory body, adding that some marketers used the opportunity to increase prices of commodities despite the harsh economy affecting every Nigerian .
According to her, Nigerians should exercise patience with the present administration, pointing out that there are some people working to sabotage the efforts of the administration.
“I have no doubts in President Bola Tinubu but am worried by the cabals sabotaging his efforts.
“There should be a price control mechanism to curtail artificial inflation created by some manufacturers who want to maximise profit, thereby imposing more hardship on the public,” she said.
Also, Mr Adeyemi Osho, a civil servant, said the removal of subsidy had devastating effects on Nigerians, resulting in inflation of about 200 per cent on commodities while salary of civil servants still remained the same.
Mrs Funmilayo Adaranijo, also advised Nigerians not to doubt the pedigree of the president, whom she described as a thoroughbred politician and economist who has prepared for a way to make Nigeria better.
She urged Nigerians to cooperate with the government as it tackles the problems headlong to make the country a better place. (NAN
