The Kaduna State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the housing deficit with the launch of a new 200-hectare housing project in Millennium City.
Gov. Uba Sani, represented by his Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, on Wednesday, emphasised that the initiative was a key component of the government’s broader strategy to provide affordable housing for residents of the state.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Sani said the administration’s multi-faceted approach includes partnerships with local and international investors.
This is with view to providing a robust social housing scheme, and the strengthening of the public housing corporation.
He also explained the collaboration with Qatar Charity and other prominent organisations like the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Customs Service.
According to the governor, this has already led to significant housing developments in the state.
Sani said Urban Shelter was a key player in the sector and has committed to developing the 200-hectare site under a Development Lease Agreement with the state government.
According to him, the project will include not only housing units but also schools, recreational facilities, gardens, and religious sites, enhancing the quality of life for residents.
In her remarks, urban shelter’s Managing Director, Hajiya Sadiya Aminu, expressed gratitude for the ongoing partnership with the state government.
She stated that since 2015, the firm had successfully developed over 28 hectares in Millennium City, investing over N50 billion in the local economy, employing Kaduna-based contractors and consultants.
According to her ,the company had also contributed to the community through social responsibility initiatives, including road construction and green energy projects.
The Emir of Zazzau, Ahmad Bamali, praised urban shelter for its significant contributions to Kaduna’s development.
He also commended the company for its quality work and investment in the state, offering prayers for the continued success and expansion of their initiatives.
He said the ceremony marked a significant journey in the state’s ongoing efforts to boost its housing sector and improve the lives of its citizens. (NAN)
