GB Foods, a leading food processing company, has recognised Kebbi Gov. Nasir Idris’ outstanding contributions to agri-business during a ceremony held at the factory in Trujillo, Spain.
Yahaya Sarki, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Gov. Idris, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
He said the governor’s efforts in fostering agri-business friendly environment earned him the GB Foods’ award.
”During the event, Gov. Idris praised GB Foods for their innovative approaches to agriculture and food processing.
”He expressed a strong desire for the company to involve Kebbi’s local farmers in tomato production, similar to the successful block farming model implemented by the company in Spain.
”The governor also requested the transfer of advanced maize and rice farming techniques from Spain, which will allow participating farmers to achieve yields of 12 and 18 tonnes per hectare, respectively,” he said.
The governor observed that it was in stark contrast to the 2.5 and three tonnes per hectare currently produced by local farmers in Nigeria.
”I am proud to be recognised by GB Foods, and I see this as an opportunity to learn from the firm’s expertise.
”I urge GB Foods to partner with us in tomato production and share their advanced farming methods with our farmers.
“This will boost agriculture, increase yields, secure food supply, and support local livelihoods,” the governor said.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of GB Foods, Mr Vicenc Basch, commended the governor‘s commitment to advancing agriculture in Kebbi.
“We are impressed by your vision for agriculture in your state. We look forward to working together to develop the agri-business sector, improve food production, and enhance the well-being of the people of Kebbi,” the CEO noted. (NAN
