Sen. Simon Lalong, the former Governor of Plateau, has commended Gov. Caleb Mutfwang for the various programs initiated by his administration to promote peaceful coexistence in the state.

Lalong gave the commendation during a golf kitty organised in honour of Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), on Saturday in Jos.

Lalong (APC), representing Plateau South Senatorial District, said that the governor was doing well toward promoting peace and tranquility in the state.

The former governor, who said that peace had eluded the state in the recent past, also commended President Bola Tinubu for ensuring that Plateau residents had a peaceful Yuletide.

“For eight years as governor, my mantra has been peace, because without peace, you can’t do anything; but when you have peace you can do everything.

“Recently Plateau celebrated Christmas carols and other festivals; today we are here playing golf, indicating that there is peace.

“So, I commend the governor for doing well and for ensuring that there is peace on the Plateau.

“We were not used to sleeping with our eyes closed in the entire North-Central region, but the story has now changed.

“I was in Nasarawa, Benue, and other places, and everywhere is now peaceful; we commend the governors of these states and our president in this regard, he said.

The lawmaker also commended the military, under the leadership of the CDS and other security agencies, for working assiduously toward ensuring the relative peace currently being enjoyed in the state.

Earlier, the CDS called on Nigerians to unite and support the military in its bid toward ending the circle of insecurity in the country.

“In 2025, we need Nigerians to put all hands on deck to fight the evil that’s trying to destroy our country.

“Some people are not happy that we are united and still standing strong; let us shame them, and the only way we can do that is to be united and work as one people.

“The military cannot do it alone, so can the civilians, but when we come together we can confront and defeat the enemy, be it insurgency, kidnapping, armed robbery, sea piracy, terrorism, and all of the evils.

“This is what we are projecting by using the game of golf, the CDS said. (NAN)
