The organizers of the Robotics Coaches Association of Nigeria (RoboCAN) on Friday said the first phase of the scheme targeted 1,000 teachers across Nigeria for certification.
Fasasi Babatunde, South West Regional Coordinator for Arc-Lights Foundation, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the launch of 2025 WRO Nigeria/Africa.
NAN reports that the 2025 WRO Nigeria/Africa event held at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos Island, was organized by the non-governmental organization, Arc-lights Foundation.
The foundation has been at the forefront of promoting robotics education in Nigerian schools.
Fasasi, however, said the advancement of robotics education in Nigeria would open more job opportunities among teachers and youths.
“The target for RoboCAN is to train 1000 teachers across the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) because we are looking at a situation whereby coaches across the entire federation will be professionally qualified.
“Those with the requisite knowledge and certification will be able to teach robotics and also be able to teach coding in schools.
“We are looking at a situation whereby the properties of robotics are well understood and impacted through the national curriculum,” he said.
Fasasi said that the RoboCAN scheme would teach more practical terms that would serve as learning aids to the students.
“The professionals in the RoboCAN scheme will not only be teaching students for competition, but they will have become experts in the knowledge.
“They will also impact the knowledge in the students so that in the next few years, we will be looking and counting that we have transformed 100,000 students,” he said.
Fasasi advised interested teachers to leverage the open entry to register for RoboCAN before the registration process changes.
Mrs. Abisola Obasanya, Managing Director of the Arc Lights Foundation, highlighted the organization’s success in introducing robotics education to over 500 public and private schools nationwide.
She added that the 2025 WRO, which featured the new scheme RoboCAN, would be offering a platform for cutting-edge innovations in robotics and STEM.
The 2025 WRO Nigeria/Africa attracted numerous stakeholders from the education sector, with over 120 schools in attendance, further cementing the country’s commitment to robotics education. (NAN)
