Uyo, Aug. 25, 2025 (NAN) The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it has apprehended two additional suspects in connection with a recent failed kidnapping attempt in Eket area of the state.
DSP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Uyo on Monday.
“The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has successfully arrested two additional suspects in connection with a recent failed kidnapping attempt in Eket,” John said.
She said that Operative of the command in a joint operation apprehended the two suspects around 1:00 a.m on Friday Aug. 22.
According to her, one of the suspects name (withheld), is a resident of Uqua Isi Edoho, in Esit Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom.
“The other also name (withheld), resides at Okorotip, Ibeno local government area of Akwa Ibom, ” she said.
John said the first suspect, popularly known by his two aliases “Igbo Man” and “Mami” was identified by the earlier arrested suspect as the mastermind of the failed kidnapping attempt.
The police spokesperson said the suspect had confessed to being part of the gang that recently kidnapped two top businessmen in Eket.
“He has been linked to several other kidnapping incidents within the Eket area,” John said.
She said that the second suspect was the boat operator who conveyed the criminals and their victims to the creek.
“Both suspects have been taken into custody for further investigation,” she said.
She said the command was continuing efforts towards apprehending other individuals mentioned during interrogations.
John said the command remained committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
“The police command will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle criminal networks in Akwa Ibom, ” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalled that operatives of the command had on Aug. 22, foiled a kidnap attempt, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
NAN also reports that the police command has apprehended no fewer than 11 suspected kidnappers between January and August 2025, in Eket, Akwa Ibom. (NAN)
