BACCIMA, LG partner to transform Badagry into major commercial hub

Badagry (Lagos State), Sept. 8, 2025 (NAN) The Badagry Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BACCIMA) has partnered with the Badagry Local Government in Lagos to transform the border town into a major commercial hub.
Alhaji Yahaya Idris, the President, BACCIMA said this during a courtesy visit to the new Chairman of the council, Mr Babatunde Hunpe, on Monday in Badagry.
Idris said that the partnership would create sustainable jobs, empower women, youth and solidify Nigeria’s leadership in regional trade under African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“We want a strategie partnership in the area of policy advocacy with the council supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
with access to single-digit loans, capacity building, and business sensitisation.
“In joint investor attraction, we are  planning to host a local trade fair before December to showcase commercial opportunities in Badagry.
“Our cross border traders need constant training on Customs and other agencies documentations, which with the help of BLG, BACCIMA can facilitate the training.
“Export training programmes for the women, youth and pushing for intermodal transportation infrastructure along the Lagos-Abidjan corridor,” he said.
The BACCIMA president said that the partnership would also involve youth empowerment and skills development
programmes on entrepreneurship, vocational training, and digital skills.
“Infrastructure and Business environment advocacy for improved road networks, markets, trade facilities to enhance businesses.
“Tourism and creative economy, positioning Badagry as a heritage and trade tourism hub, with events that blend culture and commerce.
“As a grassroots government, BACCIMA needs your financial support to be able to carry out some of our responsibilities till we will be able to stand on our feet,” Idris said.
The BACCIMA president congratulated Hunpe on his election victory as the chairman of the council.
He said that Hunpe’s emergece as chairman showed that he was a progressive politician, who was committed to service of his community.
Responding, the chairman said that the council would support initiatives to bring development, investments and investors to the town.
Hunpe commended the chamber for its activities in the town, stressing “nothing is bad in partnership that will bring good results.
“Whatever we can do to bring investors to Badagry, we are ready to do our own part of making life and environment conducive for them.
“We are ready to partner with you. Let’s do the groundwork together and come back for roundtable talk,” he said.
