Awka, Jan.14, 2026 (NAN) Anambra House of Assembly has resumed plenary with a pledge to remain more focused on effective legislation and quality oversight functions that will give dividends of democracy to Anambra people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports on Wednesday in Akwa that the Speaker of the Assembly, Dr Somtochukwu Udeze, made the pledge at his opening remark at the first sitting of the lawmakers in 2026.

Udeze urged the lawmakers to start the new legislative session with renewed commitment, unity of purpose and a committed sense of representation and responsibility in spite of their political affiliation.

He commended the lawmakers for sustaining a close relationship with their constituents during the legislative break, describing healthy constituency interactions as a core bridge between the government and the people.

He reminded the lawmakers to always respect the expectations and feelings of the people from their constituents and present the same for discussion.

“More importantly, the interactions help lawmakers to know the dire needs of the people and also act as a guide to the 8th Assembly in making laws and resolutions that truly reflect the public interest.

“I, therefore, urged you all to take the oversight function and grassroots communication seriously as key to success in our 2026 legislative duties,”Udeze said.

He reassured that the 8th Assembly would, in 2026, prioritise bills and motions that promote security, economic growth, infrastructural development, and social welfare.

Udeze also said that the assembly would strengthen collaboration with the executive arm of government for the overall development of Anambra state with perceived value on the people of the state. (NAN)
