Residents of Apo Resettlement lament poor link roads, infrastructure

Lagos, Jan. 16, 2026(NAN) The Chairman of Agege Local Government Area (LGA), Mr Abdul‑Ganiyu Obasa, says he has completed rehabilitation of the Alfa‑Nla/Oke‑Koto road in the council area, to ease movement.

Obasa said that the rehabilitation will also boost commerce in the community.

He told newsmen on Friday in Lagos, that the project would improve road safety, reduce travel time and support local economic activities.

According to him, the road rehabilitation involved resurfacing, drainage works and spot repairs, which will  enhance vehicular and pedestrian movements.

“The rehabilitation of Alfa‑Nla/Oke‑Koto road is a direct response to the needs of our people. Good roads are essential for economic activities, safety and connectivity,” he added.

He noted that the road served as a major link between different neighbourhoods in Agege, stressing that its improved condition would support businesses, students and transport operations.

Obasa said that the project was part of the council’s urban renewal agenda, which prioritises infrastructure with immediate benefits.

He said that more rehabilitation projects would be carried out in other communities, to promote safety, economic growth and inclusive developments

“This is one of several road projects we are executing to improve connectivity across Agege,” he said.

Reacting, a trader at Oke‑Koto, Mrs Kudirat Adebayo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that vehicles usually avoided the road because of potholes.

“Now, I am sure that more vehicles will pass through this road and more customers can reach us easily and business will  pick up again,” she said.

A commercial bus driver, Mr Sulaimon Adeyemi, commended the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful.

“The new surface has reduced the wear and tear on our buses.

” We’ll spend less on repairs and passengers will be happy with the smooth rides.” he said.

A resident, Mr John Okafor, noted: “It is safer for school children to walk along this corridor now.

“The drainage has stopped the flooding that used to make the road impassable,” he said. (NAN)
