Foreigner, 38, docked over alleged N22m fraud

Ikorodu (Lagos State), Jan. 26, 2026 (NAN) A 38-year-old foreigner, Ramkishor Chaudi, on Monday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a supermarket and stealing the sum of N22 million.

 

 

 

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a four-count charge of intent to defraud, forgery and stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.

 

 

 

The prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between Dec. 2025 and Jan. 2, at HINB Supermarket at No 134 Isagamu Road area of Ikorodu.

 

 

 

She alleged that the defendant, at the same time and date, entered the supermarket with the intent to defraud and obtained goods worth N450, 000.

 

 

 

“The defendant also dishonestly stole goods valued N21.6 million, all totaling N22 million belonging to HINB supermarket,” she alleged.

 

 

 

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant knowingly made false representation to the staff of HINB supermarket that full payment has been made for the goods supplied thereby making them to release the said provisions.

 

 

 

She also alleged that the defendant forged bank payment receipts by altering figures, dates and amount on electronic transfer receipt of properties in which some are genuine payment confirmation with intent upon as genuine.

 

 

 

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene the provisions of Sections 314, 287, 365 and 361 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

 

 

 

The Magistrate, Mr A. O. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5million, with two sureties in like sum.

 

 

 

He ordered that the sureties’ addresses must be verified and one of them must be a Nigerian citizen.

 

 

 

He adjourned the case until Feb. 19, for mention. (NAN)
