Jakarta, Jan. 29, 2026 (Xinhua/NAN) Indonesian authorities have stepped up passenger screening at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to prevent the possible entry of the Nipah virus, an airport official said on Thursday.

Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, head of the Communication and Legal Division at PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, made this statement.

Asmadi said that stricter monitoring has been introduced for passengers arriving from overseas amid a rise in Nipah virus cases abroad.

According to him, the airport is working closely with the Class I Denpasar Centre for Health Quarantine to carry out enhanced supervision in arrival areas.

This will include body temperature checks using thermal scanners at both international and domestic terminals.

Passengers displaying symptoms will be referred by health quarantine officers to a designated hospital in Denpasar for further examination, Gede said.

He urged travelers to maintain good health and stay informed about the latest developments related to the virus.
