The crisis rocking the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn Monday evening as the leadership of the party under Mr. Bamanga Tukur wielded the big stick as it suspended the key leaders of the New PDP (nPDP).
Among those suspended by the Tukur leadership are the National Chairman of the nPDP, Kawu Baraje; Amb Ibrahim Kazaure; the National Secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and the National Vice Chairman of the faction, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja.
Though Tukur’s leadership of the PDP was silent on the fate of the seven aggrieved governors and a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar who were part of the supposed offences of Baraje, Oyinlola and Jaja. It would be recalled that Atiku, Baraje and their followers had stunned the world by staging a walk out during the party’s special convention to form the nPDP.
Oyinlola, however basking on the euphoria of a recent ruling of the Court of Appeal which ordered his reinstatement as PDP National Secretary was to resume as the National Secretary of the Tukur ‘authentic’ faction of the party on Monday.
However, after several hours of meeting on Monday, the Tukur faction of the party pronounced Oyinlola and his co-travellers suspended for engaging in anti-party activities.
This development was however against the party’s decision to appeal the court action which brought Oyinlola back to Wadata House.
