Makurdi, Feb. 25, 2026 (NAN) Gov. Hyacinth Alia of Benue has congratulated the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Olatunji Disu, on his appointment and charged him to improve the security of lives and property in the country.
Alia gave the charge on Wednesday in a statement signed by his Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Mr Solomon Iorpev, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Bola Tinubu had earlier decorated Disu as the acting IGP following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.
The governor urged the new IGP to strengthen community engagement for effective policing, foster partnerships, and improve security measures to protect citizens.
He expressed confidence that Disu would bring his expertise to bear on his new assignment to take security in Nigeria to the next level.
Alia acknowledged the vast experience of the Disu in policing, having served in different capacities exceptionally before his elevation.
According to him, the new IGP has demonstrated leadership capacity and commitment to securing lives and property throughout his years of service to the nation.
He reaffirmed the Benue Government’s commitment to supporting the police boss in ensuring peace and stability across the state, in particular. (NAN)
