Sanwo-Olu reiterates commitment to fostering cultural, tourism ties with Mexico

Lagos, March 9, 2026 (NAN)  Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has restated his administration’s commitment to collaborate with the Mexican government in strengthening cultural exchange, and unlocking tourism opportunities.
Sanwo-Olu said this on Monday, during a courtesy visit by the Mexican Ambassador to Nigeria, Alfredo Ortiz, accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Mexico in Lagos, Abiodun Otunola, at the Lagos House Ikeja.
The governor commended the Mexican government for opening an honorary consulate in Lagos, describing the move as a step toward expanding bilateral relations and cooperation with Nigeria.
He also acknowledged Mexico’s willingness to collaborate with Nigeria in addressing common challenges, including insecurity, while strengthening diplomatic and economic partnerships.
“We appreciate the decision of the Mexican government to open an honorary consulate in Lagos, which will further strengthen our bilateral relationship and deepen cooperation between our two countries.
“This engagement presents an opportunity for us to share ideas, collaborate and explore areas that will benefit our people and strengthen our economic and cultural ties,” he said.
The governor added that his administration is ready to work with Mexico to promote business partnerships, sporting collaboration and tourism development.
According to him, Lagos is committed to creating an enabling environment that will make the state more attractive to investors and tourists.
He said such collaborations would also help deepen Lagos’ economic reach across the West African market.
Earlier, Ortiz the Mexican Ambassador to Nigeria, said his country remained committed to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
“Mexico is committed to expanding bilateral relations with Nigeria and Lagos State in particular.
“We look forward to working together to promote trade, tourism and economic cooperation that will benefit both countries,” he said.
He added that the Mexican government would continue to explore opportunities for collaboration aimed at promoting economic growth, trade development and cultural exchange between both nations. (NAN)
