Calabar, March 17, 2026 (NAN) Hype Foundation, an NGO, has honoured Innocent Etuk, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Cross River for promoting safety education in schools.

The award, presented during a courtesy visit to the sector commander on Tuesday in Calabar was in recognition of his leadership in youth-focused road safety campaigns.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NGO in partnership with FRSC conducted road safety training in five secondary schools in Calabar metropolis.

Mr Earnest Azu, a Senior Official of the Hype Foundation, said that the recognition aligned with NGOs vision of catching young people early and promoting discipline.

Azu stated that the initiative highlighted the effects of recklessness and indiscipline on academic success among secondary school students.

“We conducted the training in Government Secondary School Barracks Road, Government Secondary School Akim, Margaret Ekpo Secondary School, Mary Slessor Academy and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Secondary School,” he said.

The official said that during the exercise, the students were cautioned on the dangers of careless driving, speeding, unlicensed driving among others.

Azu further said that the students were encouraged to embrace discipline, prioritise safe lifestyle and take their personal safety seriously by shunning cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice and other social vices.

On his part, the FRSC sector commander said that the award recognized FRSC’s efforts in piloting youth safety education and instilling road safety culture among students in the state.

Etuk said that the initiative aimed to raise responsible citizens, who would obey traffic rules and contribute positively to society.

He said that the award would spur the corps to do more, especially in the area of youth sensitization.

“There is a growing recklessness among road users, so we have tried to catch them young, by teaching them safety rules. The aim is to make our society a better place,” he stated.(NAN)
