Ibadan, April 8, 2026 (NAN) The Oyo State House of Assembly in Ibadan on Wednesday threw its weight behind the 2027 governorship ambition of the speaker, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lawmakers pledged their support for his candidacy across the state’s 33 Local Government Areas, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

NAN reports that the endorsement followed a motion moved on the floor of the house by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Mohammed Fadeyi (PDP-Ona-Ara).

Fadeyi, while presenting the motion, noted that Ogundoyin’s leadership qualities and political experience had positioned him as a credible contender to sustain Gov. Seyi Makinde’s developmental strides.

According to him, the speaker has demonstrated uncommon loyalty, not just to the present administration, but to the party as a whole.

“His maturity in handling legislative affairs as well as its dynamics, and his understanding of governance at both state and national levels, stand him out,” he said.

Rahman Olorunpoto (PDP-Oyo East/Oyo West) said, judging by his performance as a speaker, he was certain of the speaker’s ability to do a lot for the state.

The Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola (PDP-Atiba), commended the speaker for his bold step, expressing confidence in him to deliver the job.

Mr Babajide Gabriel (PDP-Ibadan North II), Mr Sanjo Adedoyin (PDP-Ogbomoso South), Mr Lekan Abiola (PDP-Akinyele I) and Mr Olusola Owolabi (PDP-Ibadan North East II) also expressed their support.

According to the lawmakers, the endorsement is to tell the public that Oyo State must move beyond petty politics as the pacesetter state to embrace tested hands and qualitative leadership.

In his remarks, the speaker said he would never take his colleagues’ support for granted.

“I promise that by God’s grace, if and when I become the governor, I’ll consolidate and build on what our leader has done to move the state to the next level and won’t let the legislature down,” he said. (NAN)
