The police on Monday arraigned a laundryman, Collins Omaduvea, in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly stealing customers’ clothes and laundry soap.
The Prosecution Counsel, Sunny Emmanuel told the court that the complainant, Mr Edwin Abang reported the matter at the Katampe Police Station on April 26.
Emmanuel alleged that the defendant, a staff of the complainant’s laundry business at Katampe, Abuja stole customers’ clothes (value unknown) and pumping machine worth N50,000.
He further alleged that the defendant was caught with laundry soap and window curtains belonging to the shop while trying to abscond with the items.
The offence, he said contravened the provisions of sections 288 of the Penal Code.
The defendant however pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, R.I. Emoakpona applied for bail for his client, relying on sections 158 & 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA)and prayed for it to be granted in the most liberal terms .
The Magistrate Ekpeyong Inyang, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety who must depose to an affidavit of means of livelihood and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Inyang ordered that the surety provide means of identification and residential address which must be verified by the court’s registra.
He adjourned the matter until July 1 for trial. (NAN)
