Man arraigned over alleged N13m visa fraud

The Police on Friday arraigned Mansir Usman before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse over alleged cheating involving N13,193,645 meant for visa procurement.

He was charged with criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, cheating and theft.

Prosecuting counsel, Emmanuel Nnamani, told the court that the complainant, Ms Amina Abdulkadir, reported the matter to the FCT Commissioner of Police through a petition dated Oct. 3, 2025.

He alleged that the defendant and one Samuel Okwukwe, now at large, deceived the complainant via TikTok in March 2025, posing as visa agents.

Nnamani further alleged that they provided bank account details with First City Monument Bank and Union Bank and received the said sum under the pretext of processing visas.

He said the suspects became elusive after receiving the money until the defendant was arrested.

The prosecution said the offence contravened sections 312, 322 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Defence counsel, Helen Akpala, applied for bail, citing relevant provisions of the Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).

Magistrate Abubakar Sadiq granted the defendant N2.5 million bail with two sureties in like sum, who must be employees of public or private organizations.

He ordered that the sureties provide valid identification, utility bills and affidavits of means, and adjourned the case until July 24 for hearing.(NAN).
