Man docked for allegedly stealing sister’s jewelry

A 26-year-old man, James Christopher, was on Thursday docked in  a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his sister’s jewelry worth N1.2m.

Christopher, who resides in Ungwan Pama, Kaduna, is charged with theft, damage to property and conspiracy.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 17, at the complainant’s residence.

Leo said the defendant, who lives with his older sister, Margaret, conspired with two others,  now  at large, and stole her jewelry and damaged property worth N300,000.

He said the defendant also stole a Samsung Galaxy phone worth N220, 000 and N100,000 cash.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 217, 201 and 58 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

Section 217 stipulates five years’ jail term if found guilty, Section 201 stipulates two years’ jail term while Section 58 stipulates three years jail term.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum

Emmanuel ordered that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must present evidence of two years tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.

The case was  adjourned until June 23 for hearing.(NAN)
