The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base FORMOSO in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa on Friday provided free medical services to more than 2,000 residents of Beletieama Community during a medical outreach programme.
Beletieama Community is among the host communities of FOB FORMOSO alongside Egweama and Liama communities, where the Nigerian Navy continues strengthening civil-military relations through humanitarian services and regular community development outreach programmes for residents.
Residents of Beletieama Community received free medical services including routine health checks, medications, health education, insecticide-treated mosquito nets and medicated glasses as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration.
The Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, Captain Sunday Haruna, said the outreach reflected efforts to deepen existing civil-military relations while enabling residents to feel the impact of the Nigerian Navy’s anniversary celebration activities there.
“With this we have decided to do a free medical outreach and we have been able to get drugs, we considered that a healthy community is a resilient community.
“We know if the community is healthy, we have manpower that are capable of doing something legitimate that will continue to bring development and progress to the communities.
“So I want to thank all of you for coming out for the free medical outreach, to check your health and be attended to by the medical teams.
“As such, under the good leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, it is our pleasure today to ensure that more than 2,000 indigenes benefit maximally,” he said.
Haruna urged residents to regard the outreach as a gesture of goodwill, adding that the Nigerian Navy remained committed to supporting host communities through programmes capable of improving livelihoods and strengthening cordial relationships.
One beneficiary, Chief Darius Amalanyo, commended the Nigerian Navy for providing free medical services, expressing satisfaction with the medical tests conducted and medications distributed to residents during the outreach programme.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Grace Biolagha, lauded the Nigerian Navy for selecting Beletieama Community for the outreach, noting residents appreciated the gesture and would continue holding FOB FORMOSO and the Navy in high regard.(NAN)
