Driver docked over alleged dangerous driving, causing motorcyclist’s death

A 26-year-old driver, Amodu Ikeh, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrate’s Court in  Isabo, for allegedly driving dangerously and causing the death of one Toheeb Ariyibi.

Ikeh, with no fixed address was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on dangerous driving, causing death by dangerous driving and damage to property, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Johnson Olatunde, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on May 25, at about 11:30 p.m. along Ibadan Road, opposite the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) Complex, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Olatunde alleged that the defendant, while driving a black Lexus vehicle with registration number LAGOS – FST 773 JT, drove in a manner dangerous to the public and without due caution.

He further alleged that the defendant left his lane and collided with a TVS motorcycle with registration number OGUN- AKM- 808 VE which was drove by Ariyibi, resulting in his death.

The prosecutor also alleged that the crash caused damage to the motorcycle belonging to the deceased.

According to him, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 5, 6(1) and 7 of the Federal Highways Act, Cap F13, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Araba granted the defendant bail in sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until June 17, for further hearing (NAN)
