The Police Command in Ondo State has arrested a 38-year-old man, Nsikak Kingsley, for allegedly killing his biological father, Adone Peter.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Akure.
Jimoh disclosed that the tragic incident occurred in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
He explained that the preliminary investigation revealed that on May 28, the suspect allegedly engaged his 65-year-old father in a violent altercation which escalated into a physical assault.
“During the confrontation, the deceased reportedly sustained severe injuries, particularly on the head. He was immediately rushed to a medical facility for urgent medical attention.
“Sadly, despite efforts by medical personnel, the attending doctor confirmed him dead while receiving treatment.
“Following a formal complaint lodged at the police station by Daniel Moses, a son of the deceased and brother to the suspect, detectives promptly commenced investigation into the matter.
“Acting swiftly on the report, police operatives apprehended the suspect and took him into custody for questioning,” he said.
Jimoh said that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigation.
According to him, the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation.
He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice was served and that any person found culpable of criminal offences was made to face the full weight of the law.
He urged members of the public to shun violence in all its forms, and embrace peaceful and lawful means of resolving disputes, irrespective of the circumstances. (NAN)
