A 50-year-old travel agent, Olaitan Olabiyi, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly defrauding a client of N6.5 million.
Olabiyi, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Kehinde Olarotimi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some others still at large between September 2024 and June 2025, at Akano area of Ibadan.
Olarotimi alleged that the defendant obtained the N6.5 million from the complainant, Alhaja Atoke Akinwale to enlist him for 2024 Hajj pilgrimage, but failed to do so.
He said the defendant converted the money to her personal use.
Olarotimi said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.
Adeola ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant, while the other surety an Imam of a reputable mosque.
She adjourned the case until July 14 for mention.(NAN).
