Mutfwang urges corps members to embrace NYSC skills acquisition programme

Gov. Mutfwang seeks collaboration to revamp Plateau’s meat industry

Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has urged corps members to leverage the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire practical skills for self-reliance and future opportunities.

Mutfwang said this on Monday at the official opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 batch “B”stream l corps members orientation exercise.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Kenneth Buenyen, said the realities of today’s world required creativity, adaptability and entrepreneurial thinking.

He urged corps members to acquire practical skills that would enhance their employability.

He said that the corps members were not just participants in the one-year service programme but were ambassadors of unity, symbols of national integration and catalysts for social and economic progress.

He further said that the NYSC scheme remained a vital tool for fostering national unity and development.

Mutfwang tasked the newly sworn-in corps members to pay special attention to all the course content during the orientation exercise and adhere to the by-laws of the scheme.

The governor called on them to inculcate the spirit of discipline, patriotism, self-reliance and leadership skills which would equip them during and beyond the service year.

“Uphold the core values of discipline, patriotism and selfless service and perform your duties with diligence,” he said.

He urged them to position themselves as positive and dependable agents of transformation in the nation by shunning all forms of misinformation, divisive narratives and sentiments that would undermine the collective unity.

Mutfwang reassured the corps members that his administration, in collaboration with security agencies, was working tirelessly to sustain the peace and stability that had been restored in the state .

“Let me assure you that your safety and well-being are top priorities for my administration.

“We would continue to work closely with all relevant security agencies to safeguard peace and stability throughout the state.” He said.

Mutfwang urged the corps members to wear their NYSC uniforms with pride and carry out their duties with dedication while conducting themselves with honor and responsibility.

Earlier, Mr Jonathan Yavala, Plateau’s state coordinator for the scheme, urged the newly sworn corps members to participate fully in all camp activities, particularly the skills acquisition programme, as it would prepare them for the rigors of the service year ahead and beyond.

Yavala commended the Plateau government for its unflinching support towards the NYSC scheme.
