Police arraign man, 27, over alleged shop breaking, theft

The police on Thursday, arraigned Akinsola Taofeek, 27, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing.

The defendant, whose address was not provided in the charge sheet, is standing trial on a two-count charge of shop breaking, and stealing.

The Prosecutor, ASP Yomi Osuolale, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 10 at 5:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant entered into the shop and premises of one Oluwatoyin Ilorin, where he allegedly stole pumping machine, washing machine coil and an Ox fan coil all valued at N170,000.

Osuolale said that the offences contravened Sections 324(2) and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Adeyinka Opaleke and Mr Opeyemi Esan urged the court to grant the defendant bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 23, for hearing.(NAN)
