The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has identified the need for improved collaboration with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on emergency preparedness , to enhance safety on the nation’s rail systems
Halima Suleiman, the Head of Operations, NEMA said this during a working visit to the NRC at Rigasa Railway Station on Saturday, in Kaduna.
Suleiman said an effective collaboration had become imperative, in view of derailments and other railway-related emergencies that require rapid response.
According to her, prompt information sharing between both organizations would improve response time during emergencies and minimize risks to passengers and infrastructure.
The NEMA official also advocated regular training for railway personnel in first aid and emergency response procedures.
She explained that improved preparedness among frontline railway workers is critical to effective management of emergencies before the arrival of specialized responders.
Responding, Mr Kabiru Yakubu, the Station Manager of Rigasa Railway Station, applauded the initiative and assured NEMA of the corporation’s support.
Yakubu said the proposed training and simulation exercises would strengthen emergency management capacity within the railway system.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NEMA delegation inspected operational facilities and equipment at the station during the visit.
Both organizations pledged to sustain collaboration aimed at protecting lives, property and critical railway infrastructure.(NAN)
