A 40-year-old woman, Bukola Atewogboye, on Monday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly defrauding a man of N1 million.
Atewogboye of no fixed address, is facing a count charge of fraud, to which she pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in March.
He alleged that the defendant defrauded the complainant, Mr Murtala Agbaja, by obtaining N1 million from him under the pretext of supplying bags of rice.
“The defendant converted the money to personal use instead of fulfilling the agreement between them,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O.Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
She said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned until July 7, for further hearing. (NAN)
