A 40-year-old man, Chimezie Okafor, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing refrigerators.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant is standing trial before the Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Ogun, on a one-count charge of stealing, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 27 at Alaba International Market in Ojo.
Adesulu said that the defendant stole a 100-litre Essentia fridge worth N170,000, a 100-litre Proline fridge worth N170,000 and a 70-litre Hier Chest fridge worth N130,000, all totaling N470,000.
All the refrigerators, she said, belonged to one Mr Jacob Asuka.
She said that the offence contravenes the provisions of section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until Sept. 17 for mention.(NAN).
