Court remands man, 27, over alleged criminal conspiracy, theft

A Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, has ordered the remand of a 27-year-old businessman, Adamu Yahaya, over alleged criminal conspiracy and theft.

The police charged the defendant with criminal conspiracy and theft, contrary to Sections 96 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that although the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him, he could not give a satisfactory account of his actions before the court.

The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre pending his formal bail application.

Jobbo ordered the defendant to bring a formal application for bail and adjourned the case till Aug. 12 for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Abu Abubakar of No. 1, Haruna Gadzama Close, Life Camp, Abuja, reported the case at Life Camp Police Station.
Nwachukwu said that on June 30, 2025, at about 12:25 p.m., the defendant conspired with one Ibrahim (surname unknown), now at large, to snatch and break into cars belonging to members of public within Life Camp Junction.

She further stated that the defendant removed the complainant’s Android phone and in the process of removing his laptop, he was caught.

The prosecutor told the court that during police investigation, the defendant made a confessional statement.

She said that the offences contravened Sections 96 and 287 of the Penal Code.(NAN).
