Dr Ezekiel Kwasu, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Kaduna State Rural Hospital in Zonkwa, has appealed to the state government to upgrade the facility to a general hospital.

Kwasu made the appeal on Monday in Zonkwa while receiving medical equipment and essential drugs donated to the hospital through the efforts of  Mr Danjuma Sarki.

He explained that the appeal had become necessary because the hospital now serves a rapidly increasing population and receives referrals from several surrounding communities despite operating with limited facilities and resources.

According to him, upgrading the hospital to a general hospital would improve access to quality healthcare services, attract more medical personnel and enable the facility to handle more specialized medical cases.

The CMD expressed appreciation to Sarki for facilitating the donation, describing the gesture as timely and a demonstration of commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the constituency.

Earlier, Sarki said he was motivated to seek support from the donor agency after identifying the challenges facing the hospital and the need to complement government efforts in the health sector.

He noted that access to quality healthcare remains a fundamental right and pledged to continue mobilizing support and partnerships aimed at improving health and educational infrastructure across Zonkwa constituency.

Sarki recalled that he had earlier collaborated with a federal government agency to establish a state-of-the-art science laboratory at Government Technical College, Abet, as part of his commitment to educational development.

Sarki, a Kaduna House of Assembly hopeful for Zonkwa Constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), assured residents that if elected he would prioritize legislation and advocacy that would enhance healthcare services, education, youth empowerment and rural development.

Also speaking, Mr Luka Yabwat, the Agwam Bajju, represented by the Waziri Bajju, commended Sarki for the intervention, describing it as a practical demonstration of responsive leadership.

He urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture by supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of the people.

In a remark on behalf of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Zangon Kataf branch, the Secretary, Onesimus Zakaria, expressed gratitude for the donation, saying the equipment and drugs would strengthen service delivery and improve patient care at the hospital.

He appealed to governments at all levels and other stakeholders to continue investing in health facilities, noting that quality healthcare is critical to community development.

In separate goodwill messages, Mr Martins Koya, the PDP Chairman in Zangon Kataf Local Government, commended Sarki for his consistent support for community development.

He described the intervention as a reflection of selfless leadership and urged political office holders and aspiring leaders to focus on initiatives that directly impact the lives of the people.

The items donated include hospital beds, ECG machine, wheelchairs, mattresses, stethoscope, blood pressure monitor, and disinfectants amongst others. (NAN).
