Two men, Saheed Oladeji, 43, and Emmanuel Ogundare, 43, on Thursday, appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, charged with hacking a bank customer’s account and stealing N293,116,31.
The defendants, both residents of Alakia area of Ibadan, pleaded not guilty to the two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Sikiru Opaleye said that the defendants with others now at large allegedly committed the offences on March 31 at about 2:00p.m.
Opaleye said that the defendant allegedly hacked into a customer’s Polaris bank account at the Abayomi, Iwo Road branch , Ibadan, and stole N29,311,631.
He said that the customer after receiving alerts on the account complained to the bank and subsequently the police was invited to investigate the matter.
The prosecutor said that the police upon receiving the report tracked the defendants to their home at Alakia where they were arrested.
He said that the offences contravened the provision of Sections 383, 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000
The bank was represented in court by Mr Ayodeji Olupeka.
Defence Counsel, Kemi Fowosola (Ph.d) asked for the defendant’s bail on most liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N7.5 million each with two sureties each in like sum.
Ogunkanmi said that one of the sureties to each defendant must be property owners within the court’s jurisdiction, while the others must be blood relatives of the defendants.
She, thereafter, adjourned the matter until Dec. 12, for hearing. (NAN).
