As he continually courts controversy over his approach to the Coronavirus,President Donald Trump has announced that he has been taking hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug he’s touted as a potential cure for Covid-19 despite scientists’ concerns about its effectiveness.
“A couple of weeks ago, I started taking it,” Trump told reporters at the White House, adding that he’d consulted with his presidential physician about the drug.
Trump has insisted continually that the cure for the virus cannot be as difficult as scientists have claimed it to be and,thus,postulated a number of “simple” ways to cure those who have contracted it or to prevent it.
Initial data from observational studies have shown the drug has limited or no proven benefits for coronavirus patients, and may even be harmful when used in certain combinations.
