Following the call of the Senate on Tuesday to Service Chiefs to resign, the Presidency has made its stand known on the issues, promising to look into it.

In its reaction on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the President, Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, said it had noted the position of the Senators but underlined the fact that the appointment of the service chiefs remained “a presidential prerogative and, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, will do what is in the best interest of the country at all times”.

On Tuesday, Senator Ali Ndume (Borno South) had moved a motion calling on all service chiefs to step down from their positions and, later, Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), in an amended resolution, had made the same call; insisting that they resign or face the sack over their inability to quell the multi-pronged, prolonged security challenges in the country.

In his remarks, Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan, resolved that there was a need for the government to look into “wrong happenings” in the military.
