Prof. Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has dismissed rumours that he has bowed to pressures and resigned, less than two weeks to the country’s presidential election scheduled on February 12.
According to an online media organisation, News Express, Jega’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Kayode Idowu, who was asked to confirm if his principal has either resigned or is contemplating doing so, said “no”.
Another senior INEC official also dismissed the rumours being spread through some social media outlets.
“It’s true that there are issues, especially with regard to the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) distribution, but I’m not aware of Jega’s resignation. I understand he is presiding over a meeting right now,” the source said.
