The Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, on Tuesday, swore in 1,347 corps members into the 2021 Batch āCā Stream I Orientation Course of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
in Enugu State.
Ozoemena, who was represented by Justice A.O. Onovo, administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members at the Parade Ground of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Awgu, Enugu State.
Ten corps members from each of the 10 platoons of the ongoing Orientation Course countersigned the oath on behalf of all corps members.
Speaking during the oath administration, Ozoemena charged the young graduates to contribute their quota towards the development of the country.
He said, āAt this time in the history of the country when there are several challenges in the economic, educational, health, and infrastructural sectors, it is left for us as individuals to see how we can contribute to making this country better.
āMake sure that you are not a part of the problems of this country, but rather be a part of the solution,ā.
In a message to the event, the NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Shaibu Ibrahim tasked the corps members āto ensure healthy interactions, exchange ideas and build lasting friendships with a view to advancing the progress of a united Nigeria.ā
Ibrahim represented by the State Coordinator, NYSC Enugu, Mr. Sam Ujogu, cautioned the young graduates against cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.
āI also urge you to use social media only for the promotion of unity and other positive purposes rather than rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred,ā he added.
The DG urged corps members to endeavour to take the COVID-19 vaccine for their own interest.
He explained, āAs you may be aware, the Federal Government has announced plans to make the presentation of evidence of COVID-19 vaccination by civil servants a pre-requisite for gaining entry into public offices from 1st December 2021.
āI, therefore, encourage those of you who are yet to take the vaccine to do so without further delay as the rule could apply to corps members in their Places of Primary Assignment.
āOf greater significance is the fact that the vaccine will keep you safe. We are already in touch with the relevant authorities with a view to ensuring that the vaccines are made available to you in the course of this programme.ā
Ibrahim also urged the corps members to continue to comply with the COVID-19 prevention protocols throughout the period of the orientation course.
āIn particular, you must ensure physical distancing and wearing of face masks as well as make good use of hand washing facilities provided at strategic locations, amongst other safety measures,ā he appealed. (NAN).
