Hong Kong’s Center for Health Protection (CHP) has reported five new imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the total tally to 12,335.
The Center said that the newly reported cases were imported cases.
Two of the cases involved mutant strains while the viral load of one case is insufficient for a mutation test, and the mutation test results of the two remaining cases were pending, the CHP said.
As three passengers on an Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai and Bangkok were confirmed to have COVID-19 by arrival testing in Hong Kong on Oct. 25.
Flights from Dubai and Bangkok operated by the airline were prohibited from landing in Hong Kong from Oct. 27 to Nov. 9.
A total of 58 cases have been reported in the past 14 days and all were imported, according to the CHP.
Hong Kong’s vaccination drive is making steady progress.
Since the launch of the government inoculation program in late February, around 4.6 million people, or 68.3 per cent of the eligible population, have taken at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Meanwhile, around 4.4 million have been fully vaccinated.
