An unemployed man, Ahmed Azeez, was on Wednesday docked at a Lagos High Court, sitting at Tafa Balewa Square, for allegedly shooting a passerby to dispossess him of his personal belongings.

Azeez, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy to commit robbery, unlawful possession of fire arms and grievous harm.

The Lagos State Prosecutor, Mr. M. A. Olatunji, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the alleged offences on Oct. 20, 2019, at 3:10a.m. at Ebute Meta area of Lagos.

He said that the defendant was unlawfully in possession of a locally-made pistol, which he used to shoot one Mr. Micheal Olubunmi, a passerby.

“The defendant caused grievous harm to the complainant while attempting to dispossess him of his personal belongings,” Olatunji said.

According to him, the offence contravene Sections 245, 299 and 329 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, however, urged the court to adjourn for trial, to enable him assemble all the prosecution witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr. David Ogebe, did not object to the adjournment.

The Judge, Justice S. I. Sonaike, remanded the defendant to the correctional centre and adjourned the case until Dec. 1 for trial. (NAN)
