The Proprietor of Classic Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin, Mr. Dele Adeoke, has called for the mandatory setting up of sport facilities in Nigerian schools.

Adeoke, who made the call in Ilorin on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that the acquisition of sport facilities should be prioritized in both private and public schools.

According to him, most schools do not have basic sport facilities for their scholars.

“Most private schools do not have enough space to set up sport facilities. They only prioritize academic work and deny their students the benefits of participating in sport activities.

“Most proprietors do not care about involving their students in sports. They see it as unnecessary.

“Most schools cannot boast of a football field, volley ball court, table tennis, javelin and other basic sport facilities. They only care about libraries and science laboratories.

“Students need to exercise. They need to show and develop their talents while in school.  Learning is not restricted to classroom as you can also learn on the field and become the best,” he said.

Adeoke described children as future superstars who should not be restricted to the classroom.

“When the children are allowed access to sport facilities, they can develop their talents and become superstars in the future and can as well represent their country in events internationally,“ he said.

The proprietor, however, called on the government at all levels to invest in school sport facilities and as well compel schools to acquire the requisite equipment. (NAN)
