Kwara: INEC trains security personnel on 2023 election duty

 The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara has trained 100 security personnel on their duties for the upcoming general election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Malam Attahiru Madami, disclosed this while declaring open a two-day training workshop in Ilorin on Friday.

According to him, as the nation prepares for the 2023 general elections, the commission organised the training to educate police personnel on their duties before, during and after the elections

Madami,  who was represented by the the Administrative Secretary, Mr Julius Yagba, explained that the election in the country cannot be complete without including special stakeholders like security agencies.
He added that the commission would leave no stone unturned to give Nigerians nothing but an inclusive, successful and acceptable election.
“The special stakeholders such as police have to be trained so that on the election day there won’t be grumblings in the darkness as to what and what is their duties.

“As we are seated here you people will be taken through special aspects of your duties during election.

You will be taken through the specific aspects of programme and special duty during the election and also what is expected of you during the election,” he said.
The REC added that the system of election to be adopted during election would be impacted on the participants.
He urged the participants to be committed and listen attentively to what the expert is going to teach them.
Mr Frances Aya, one of the commission’s training officers, said that election in the country cannot be fully secured without the assistance of security personnel.
He explained that the essence of the training was to acquaint the participants with the skill in managing the election, securing the election materials and protecting the electorate throughout the election process.
