LAGOS – The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to entertainment centres within the state, cautioning against the sale and distribution of counterfeit drinks. The advisory was conveyed by Mr Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, in a statement shared on his Instagram page.
Aregbe addressed the growing concern about the circulation of fake drinks in clubs and restaurants across the state, emphasizing the substantial threat such products pose to public health and safety. In response, his office has initiated intensified and coordinated efforts to eliminate substandard drinks from the market.
“We call upon all clubs, restaurants, and public places where drinks are sold to exercise due diligence in ensuring they do not purchase or serve fake drinks to unsuspecting consumers,” Aregbe stated.
Assuring the public of comprehensive measures, he disclosed that the state would collaborate with Mr Ononiwu Ezeribe, Director of Investigation and Enforcement at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and Mr Lanre Mojola, head of the Lagos State Safety Commission.
Aregbe warned that any entertainment venue found serving or selling counterfeit drinks would face immediate closure, coupled with the suspension of their operating license. Stringent measures are set to be implemented to ensure the well-being of Lagos residents and visitors.
The Special Adviser highlighted ongoing collaboration with relevant agencies to achieve full compliance and eradicate the sale of fake drinks within the state.
