LAGOS – The Dangote Refinery is gearing up for production as it receives its sixth batch of one million barrels of crude oil on January 8, marking a significant step toward the commencement of operations at the world’s largest single-train refinery. Supplied by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), the fresh delivery of Agbami crude via MT ALMI SUN completes the initially scheduled 6 million barrels consignment to the Dangote facility.

Approximately a month ago, the refinery received its first one million barrels of Agbami crude from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO). Since then, Dangote Refinery has received subsequent batches of crude oil. The latest delivery, discharged at the Single Point Mooring (SPM-C2) at the Dangote Offshore Oil Terminal (DOOT), reinforces the refinery’s readiness for production.

Akin Omole, Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, highlighted the significance of the completed 6 million barrels delivery for the refinery’s operational kickstart. He emphasized that this milestone would facilitate the initial run of the refinery, leading to the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), followed by Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

This development is expected to address fuel supply challenges in Nigeria and neighboring West African countries. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed for 100% Nigerian crude but flexible enough to process other grades, boasts a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. It can handle various African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crudes from other nations.

Moreover, the refinery is positioned to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel. With surplus production in each category, Dangote Petroleum Refinery aims not only to cater to domestic demands but also to contribute significantly to international markets. The facility’s capabilities are expected to play a crucial role in addressing energy needs in the region.
