PMFThe death toll in the clash between factions of street urchins, popularly known as Area Boys, in Lagos State rose from one to two on Thursday.
As at Thursday morning, only one death had been recorded in the clash that occurred in the Oshodi area of the state.
The clash began on Wednesday.
Several persons were wounded, while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.
Shops, houses and vehicles were damaged while the clash lasted.
The fight reportedly started at Ayoni Bus Stop.
It was said to be between Orile Oshodi and Mafoluku factions of the street urchins.
The Orile street urchins were said to have reacted to an earlier attack by their Mafoluku counterpart who felt aggrieved that the Orile boys encroached into their territory to collect money from tricycle operators, popularly called Marwa and Keke NAPEP.
The initial stoppage of the clash by the police in the early hours of Thursday was broken shortly after the team left.
This led to a return of security agents to the area.
Those deployed to man the area, who were still in place as at press time, included policemen from Makinde and Akinpelu Police Posts, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad and OPMESA and the National Security and Civil Defence Corps.
As at press time, the police said no one had been arrested over the disturbance.
The spokesman of the police in Lagos State, Patricia Amadin, said no arrests had been made.
Amadin said: “We shall issue a statement on the matter.
“No arrest has been made yet, but we are on it.”
