Delta State, Nigeria The All Progressives Congress (APC) has clinched a decisive victory in the House of Assembly rerun elections in Delta State, signalling a significant shift in the state’s political landscape. Jubilant scenes unfolded across major cities, including Warri, Ughelli, Sapele, Asaba, and Burutu, as APC supporters celebrated the party’s triumph over the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The rerun elections, held in Burutu and Ethiope West Local Government Areas, saw the APC emerge victorious in constituencies previously considered impregnable strongholds of the PDP. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commended the peaceful conduct of the elections, declaring APC candidates as winners in both constituencies.

Alapala Anthony Ebitonmo secured victory in the House of Assembly rerun elections for Burutu State Constituency 1, garnering 7,728 votes to defeat his PDP rival, Asupa Forteta, who secured 6,616 votes. Similarly, Hon. Blessing Achoja of the APC emerged victorious in the Ethiope West State Constituency rerun, further solidifying the party’s success.

The APC attributes its remarkable performance to visionary campaigning strategies spearheaded by former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who also served as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general elections. Omo-Agege’s strategic collaboration with former governor, Chief James Ibori, is believed to have significantly bolstered the APC’s electoral prowess in the state.

In a statement released by Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo, State Publicity Secretary of the Delta State APC, the party expressed gratitude for the leadership of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and other key figures who played pivotal roles in securing victory for APC candidates.

Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central at the National Assembly, and Senator Joel-Thomas Onowakpo, representing Delta South Senatorial District, both under the APC platform, commended the victorious candidates and hailed the party’s success in the rerun elections.

As jubilation sweeps across Delta State, the APC calls for sportsmanship from opponents, urging them to accept the election results and work towards a united and prosperous future for the state.
