The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to avoid speeding during rainfalls due to poor visibility and poor road friction.

The Sector Commander of FRSC in Enugu State, Mr. Adeyemi Sokunbi, gave the advice on Saturday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.

He said it was necessary motorists adhere to the safety rules to avoid auto crashes as the rainy season sets in.

Sokunbi said that motorists must ensure that their wipers and lighting systems are working optimally in the rainy season.

He emphasised that functional air conditioners also helped motorists increase visibility, especially during rainfall.

“If you have no functional air conditioner in your vehicle due to fog on the windscreen during rainfall, you can park and wait for the rain to subside for clear visibility before moving ahead,” he said.

He also advised motorists on the need to have good tyres with good grip on the road for good friction to help the brake system during rainfall.

Sokunbi, who is also the Corps Commander of FRSC Enugu State Command, urged motorists to aim for safety during the rainy season by avoiding flooded roads, especially unfamiliar roads.

“It is better and wiser if you park your vehicle when the road is flooded. Until the flood subsides, you can continue your journey.

“This also applies if the rain is coming with serious wind and thunderstorm activities. Safety first is the watchword,” he said. (NAN)
