Kaduna, Feb. 24, 2026 (NAN) The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project in Kaduna has engaged stakeholders and affected communities ahead of planned erosion control works covering 3.14 kilometres in the Kawo area.
The State Project Coordinator, Hadiza Halid, disclosed this on the sidelines of a one-day capacity-building workshop on Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) implementation on Tuesday.
It was organised to sensitise residents and align relevant stakeholders before the commencement of civil works.
Halid said about 243 persons were expected to be affected along the erosion corridor.
“This is a community-based intervention. It is important that the people understand what the government, in collaboration with ACReSAL, intends to do.
“We have brought together community leaders and relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to explain the RAP process and safeguard measures. This will help to minimise grievances and ensure smooth implementation,” she said.
The Commissioner for Environment, Abubakar Buba, described erosion as a serious environmental threat requiring urgent remediation across affected communities.
Represented by Yusuf Mu’azu, Director of Environment and Pollution Control, Buba said the state government had strengthened environmental management efforts, including improved waste control measures, to complement the remediation works.
He noted that the engagement was critical to ensuring that environmental restoration activities were carried out with community support and in line with established safeguards. (NAN)
