AWKA, 14 January 14, 2024 In a swift operation, the Anambra State Police Command has successfully thwarted the activities of a four-man armed gang in Igboukwu, Aguata LGA. The incident unfolded today, Sunday, January 14, 2024, when the gang, travelling in a commercial bus from Nnewi, was intercepted at a police checkpoint.
Vigilant police officers stopped the bus for a routine search, prompting one of the hoodlums to alight and brandish a Barreta pistol. In response, the police swiftly neutralised the armed individual, ensuring the safety of the checkpoint and passengers.
A subsequent search of the gang’s bag revealed a concealed dagger, heightening concerns about their intentions. The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the vigilance and swift action of the police personnel. He has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take charge of the case for a thorough investigation.
In a show of fairness and commitment to justice, CP Adeoye ordered the immediate release of two elderly passengers who boarded the bus at a different location, emphasising the importance of distinguishing between criminals and innocent citizens.
