A female activist in Niger, Hajiya Maryam Mustapha, on Saturday called on elected public office holders in the country to fulfil their campaign promises.

Mustapha, Founder, Girls and Women Empowerment Network, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna.

She said that it was only when elected officials fulfilled their promises that they would command the people’s respect and confidence.

She noted that there was much expectation in the areas of improved healthcare, education, housing, agriculture, transportation, as well as human capital development.

“When leaders fulfil their promises, every other thing becomes a child’s play and simple.

“That would enable the followers to have confidence in the leaders and would make them to support the policies and programmes of the government of the day”, she said.

Mustapha explained that the nation`s founding fathers succeeded in fulfilling their campaign promises by implementing people-oriented policies and programmes.

She said that time has come for elected representatives to demonstrate their political commitment by fulfilling their campaign promises.

According to her, the ongoing rail project linking Nigeria to Niger Republic, as well as the massive reconstruction of rail lines, would enhance socio-economic growth of the country.

Mustapha also commended the Federal Government for awarding the contract for the main work on the Second Niger Bridge and several road projects in the country.

Mustapha called on Nigerians, irrespective of their tribe or political differences, to support the political commitment of the present administration in its effort to reposition the country for optimal growth. (NAN)
