Rashid Afegbua, the Commissioner of Police in Cross River, has called for effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) in the state.

Afegbua made the appeal on Tuesday in Calabar when the ACJL implementation committee in Cross River visited him.

He said that the Inspector-General of Police’s was committed to getting officers acquainted with citizens’
constitutional rights and the Police Act, 2020.

The CP urged the ACJL working committee to work out modalities toward training police personnel in human rights principles for law enforcement and constitutional rights.

The training should include Administration of Criminal Justice Act, lawful arrest, search, and detention procedures.

“It should also touch on UN Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials, Prohibition of Torture among others,” he said

Speaking further, Afegbua stated that the command was facing challenges of lack of cameras and lawyers, especially at police stations in rural areas.

Earlier, Mr James Ibor, the leader of the ACJL team, commended the police for implementing a developed documentation system in the state.

Ibor said that the team’s goal was to ensure the effective implementation of ACJL and the Police Act in the interest of the citizens and the police.(NAN)
